Making Sand from Rocks
When my four year-old grows up he wants to be a daddy most of all. But in his spare time he wants to be an artist, a bee keeper, a priest, an ice maker and now a sand maker.
Making sand is easy and exciting when you’re four. All you need is a coffee can, some rocks, and a place outside where you can be obscenely loud.
Just put the rocks into the coffee can and shake. Little flecks of the rock will get ground off and a fine coating of dust (ie sand) will start covering everything inside. For some reason the sand-making instructions that Austin stumbled upon that gave him this idea involved putting water into the can too. Sand is also generated with water in the container but it’s less dramatic because the water ends up looking muddy and it is not quite so clearly sand.
